High School Admissions Resources

NYC MySchools

An NYC MySchools account is mandatory.

  • You can use this website anytime to start researching the approximately 700 programs that your child can apply to for high school.

  • In October, you will use it to register your child to take the SHSAT. As part of registering for the exam, you will select and rank the eight specialized high schools.

  • By early December, you will submit a ranked list of NYC high schools (not including the specialized high schools).

  • In early March, high school admission results will be released.

NYC-SIFT

NYC-SIFT is a free private website that provides a searchable database of information about all of the NYC high school programs. I personally found it an invaluable tool when researching schools for my two children. They provide significantly more information about each school than you can find through NYC MySchools (which they appear to obtain by making requests through the Freedom of Information act). I found the NYC-SIFT Advisor to be very helpful.

These schools will all host open houses in October-November. You are strongly encouraged to attend the open houses for any schools that you are interested in attending.
