Official Practice Tests: 2018-2026
Every year, the DOE releases two practice tests (Forms A and B). Below is a collection of all the practice tests that have been released since 2018.
These practice tests are assembled annually from a limited pool of released test questions. If you do practice tests from more than one year, you will notice that many of the test questions and reading passages are recycled from year to year. You should not expect to see repetition of any of these questions or reading passages on your actual test.
SHSAT changes that happened in fall 2025:
They did away with the paper bubble sheets, and made the test fully online; and they replaced some multiple choice questions with Tech Enhanced Items (such as dropdown menus, drag-and-drop, and multiple select).
SHSAT changes that will be happening in fall 2026:
The online test is becoming computer adaptive; this means that your test questions will be selected based on whether you answered previous questions correctly. This is a big change, because you will no longer be allowed to skip test questions, or go back and review or change answers once you have submitted them.
In my opinion, the best use of these practice tests is to develop your pacing and rhythm for test day. You want to internalize the pace you need to be working at so that on test day, you can use your time effectively, and proceed through the test without feeling rushed. I recommend:
Try to create an environment that is as close as possible to what you will experience on test day. (Clear off your desk, don’t use any reference materials, avoid music, phone, and any other interruptions). Take each test in one sitting.
Since the test in 2026 is becoming computer-adaptive, you will not be able to go back and change answers once you have submitted them. Treat all of your practice tests like this too. Answer all questions in order; select the best answer for each question; and then move on.
Set a timer, and record how long it takes you to complete each part of the test. You want to learn to pace yourself so you comfortably finish within the time limit (180 minutes), but you are using all of the time you are given, with maybe 10 minutes to spare.
Use the older tests first, and the newest test last.
